The Tale of Seven Hills
Lisbon is well known for its uneven landscape and is said to be built on seven hills. The myth around how these hills were formed is the source of inspiration for the Fado restaurant. Legend has it that the God Ulysses arrived on the shores of Portugal to find Offiusa, a goddess with a serpant’s tail. She fell in love with him and offered him the position of king. He politely accepted but escaped with his ship one night. When Offiusa woke and discovered Ulysses had fled, she got angry and her tail hit the ground so hard that the hill’s rose up and still stand today.
This project was for University and the brief was to design a restaurant where traditional Fado music is performed. The ancient myth forms the base and inspiration for this project.
